Eighteen, and continue learning to love.

Turning 18 feels both scary and exciting.

As I grew up, I was always afraid of change. I held tightly to what was familiar, the same routines, the same comfort, the same environment. Growing up meant stepping into the unknown, and for the longest time, that frightened me. I often found myself looking back at the nostalgia of being younger, wishing I could stay there a little longer.

In kindergarten, I was the little girl who hid behind the bus curtains because she felt like she had no friends. I was the child who cried before school because of bullying. During my primary and intermediate years, I was the cringey, short kid trying to find where I belonged.

In Junior High, I became the responsible, sporty, and friendly teenager who was known as the “mom of the friend group.” In Senior High, I was the girl whose laugh could be heard from classrooms away, quiet about my achievements but loud about the things that made me happy.

Looking back, I see that every version of me mattered. Every challenge taught me strength. Every mistake taught me wisdom. Every goodbye made space for new beginnings and reminded me that not everything will go my way. With each passing year, I learned not just how to grow, but how to grow with grace, love, and acceptance. Change was never my enemy. It was shaping me all along.

Now, as I turn eighteen, I know it is not about having everything figured out. It is about embracing who I am becoming. It is about choosing patience and faith, and learning to love myself, my flaws, my dreams, and my hopes.

Today, I celebrate not just a number, but a journey. The shy little girl I once was, the lessons that shaped me, and the young woman I am slowly becoming.

Cheers to my family who stood by me through all the seasons of my life. To my friends who accepted me and grew with me. And to all my loved ones who supported me.

At eighteen, I continue learning to love life, others, and most importantly, myself.
