Growing Up Story

Eighteen feels like a quiet turning point—somewhere between who I was and who I’m still becoming. I used to be shy, holding back in rooms that felt too big, and at times I tried too hard to be an overachiever, like I always had to prove something. Now I’m learning that I don’t have to be perfect to be enough.

Growing up is exciting but also honestly scary, like life is moving forward and I’m still catching up. I keep thinking about Ribs and the line “it feels so scary getting old” because it really feels like that, like time is slipping into something I can’t control.

But even with that fear, I’m not alone. I’m surrounded by people I love who make life feel softer, safer, and worth it. As I turn 18, I hope I become someone strong and independent, but still gentle, still present, still able to feel joy in the little things. And no matter what changes, I hope I always remember that I don’t have to rush becoming who I’m meant to be.
