Our Love Story

It all began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. A time filled with uncertainty, fear, and isolation. Back then, I asked my friend’s wife (who happened to be Shaira’s workmate) if she knew someone who was single. Nurses, after all, were among the brave frontliners during that time, and somehow, fate seemed to draw me toward meeting someone from that world.

At that moment, Shaira was on duty together with My friend’s wife and casually mentioned to her that she had a friend who was single, and they searched my Facebook account.

On September 5, 2020, while assigned in the COVID Isolation Area, she finished her shift past midnight. As she scrolled through Facebook, trying to unwind before sleeping, my name appeared in the “People You May Know” section. Remembering what her workmate had said, she decided to send me a friend request. When I saw her request, I accepted it and sent her a simple thumbs-up message.

From there, our conversations began and quickly became frequent. We would talk for hours, often until the wee hours of the morning while she was still assigned in the COVID Isolation Area. We talked about everything, simple topics, shared laughter, and even exchanged photos. As the days passed, I found myself running errands for her while she was in quarantine after attending to COVID-19 patients.

What made our story even more meaningful was the realization that we had actually crossed paths before.

Our very first encounter happened at Corazon C. Aquino Hospital (CCAH), although neither of us recognized each other at the time. I was a patient then, recovering from a motor vehicular accident, and she was the attending nurse who assisted and escorted me to Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital (DJRMH) for a CT scan.

Months later, fate brought us together again, this time with recognition, connection, and purpose. From a chance encounter to late-night conversations, from simple acts of kindness to genuine care, we eventually found our way to each other.

And the rest, as they say, is history. ☺
